Romania’s PM Says Govt Will Sell Minority Stakes

Romania’s Government plans to sell its minority stakes in several companies and use the funds to finance investment projects, Prime Minister Emil Boc said Tuesday, even though the economy minister has recently stated that these stakes would not be sold.

„The state is not, unfortunately, the best manager and this was proved all around the world. There are situations in which the state still owns minority stakes in several companies… and then, it is best to sell these minority stakes… and use the funds to create an investment fund for infrastructure works,” Boc said Tuesday evening at the public TV station.

On Tuesday, Boc presented the Parliament with the Government’s new anti-crisis program, and one of the measures is the setup of a state-run investment fund that will include Romania’s minority participations in several companies.

However, Economy Minister Adriean Videanu said last week that the state-run investment fund won’t sell the state’s minority stakes.
