Romanian Woman’s Twins Turn Out To Be Stillborn Two-Headed Son

Hospital medical manager Valeria Filip said Thursday the woman gave birth last Friday but the case wasn’t made public, at the request of the family.

 

The woman, mother of nine, was committed to the Oradea maternity hospital to deliver what her gynecologist had told her were twins.

 

"The baby has a very severe malformation and couldn’t have survived. The family forbade us to release any information on this case because they live in a village and don’t want neighbors talking. The baby, a boy, was stillborn. He had two heads stuck to his thorax. He had no lungs, the heart was deformed. There was no way he could have lived,’ said Filip, who was in the delivery room when the woman gave birth.

 

Filip declined to state the name of the gynecologist who assisted the woman throughout the pregnancy and failed to notice the severe malformations in time. She added the medical chart indicates the woman went in for medical exams very seldom.

 

"At the ultrasound, in the first stage, the doctor assumed the woman had twins. Had she shown up for regular check-ups, the anomalies may have been found in time,” Filip said. 

 

The local physicians’ college said will analyze the case to see whether the gynecologist is to blame in the case.

 

The head of the college, Ovidiu Burta, said the family has not submitted any complaint so far.

 

"The family may submit a notice if they have any suspicion of malpractice regarding the gynecologist who assisted the woman throughout the pregnancy. But even without a notice, we’ll definitely look into what happened,” Burta said.
