Heavy rainfalls and snow melting caused floods on Saturday night which affected over 50 households and over one hundred hectares of land in more locations in Romania’s northern county of Maramures.
Heavy Rainfalls, Snow Melting Cause Floods In Several Romanian Counties
Maramures prefect, Böndi Gyöngyike, said water overflowing affected 35 households in Botiza location and 19 households and annexes in Berbesti village.
Rescue teams with the County Gendarmerie Inspectorate and the Botiza Local Committee for Emergency Situations were ready to evacuate 50 households, but, since the water flow on Botiza Valley decreased, there was no need for evacuation measures.
In Baia Sprie location, increased water flow on the Minei Valley affected 0.2 kilometers of village road.
Heavy rainfalls also caused floods Saturday night in Toplita location, in Romania’s central county of Harghita, which affected more households.
Thirty people in Doina Arini location, in Romania’s northeastern county of Suceava, were evacuated on Saturday night after the Bistrita River overflowed and flooded five houses and 20 households.
Moreover, five households in Maguri Racatau location, in Romania’s central-western county of Cluj, faced power outages on Saturday night caused by powerful windstorms.
