Heavy Snowstorms Paralyze Bucharest Intl Airports
Following heavy snowstorms that froze all activity on "Henri Coanda" airport, Romania’s flag carrier Tarom was forced to cancel six flights departing from Bucharest, namely RO7111/RO7521 (Bucharest- Antalya/Cluj- Antalya and back), RO651/RO347 (Bucharest-Cluj-Vienna), RO341 (Bucharest-Vienna), RO641 (Bucharest-Cluj) and RO601 (Bucharest- Timisoara).
"As far as passengers are concerned, they will be rescheduled for subsequent flights to be operated as soon as activity on Henri Coanda airport is resumed,” Tarom said in a press release.
The airliner added a series of other flights, both local and international, that were to depart Thursday morning, were delayed until after 14:30 local time when "Henri Coanda" reopens.
Valentin Iordache, spokesperson of "Henri Coanda" airport, said Thursday morning that many other flights operated by different airliners towards Milan, Rome, Venice, Budapest, Brussels, Sharm-El-Sheikh and Antalya were also canceled.
Baneasa airport was also closed around 10:30 local time to clean the runway of snow, the airport’s general manager Stefan Mladin told MEDIAFAX.
