Hollywood Actor Ethan Hawke Comes To Romania For Halloween Charity Ball

Leslie Hawke, head of the Ovidiu Rom Association, said her son, Ethan Hawke, confirmed his presence at this year's charity ball, where U.S. Ambassador to Romania Mark Gitenstein will be the keynote speaker.

Madonna also wanted to support the event, but because she cannot be present, she promised to donate one of her personal items, which is to be auctioned off or given as a prize.

Leslie Hawke said she was not sure at first whether the charity ball should be organized this year, given the financial crisis, but added she hopes people will continue to support the organization's work even if they have to dig deeper into their pockets.

The continuing increase of early school abandonment in Romania prompted Ovidiu Rom to launch in June the awareness campaign "Every Child in School", which is supported by local celebrities and stirred almost immediate social reaction.

Ethan Hawke, twice nominated for an Oscar, will film a TV spot next year to endorse the association's campaign.

The funds raised at the Halloween Charity Ball will enable the association to continue its efforts to put underprivileged children through school.
