Hundreds Of Romanians Sent Petitions To Govt Over Tripled Car Tax

“We’ve had nearly 300 petitions sent to the Government in just one day (Wednesday –e.n.) Some of them are simply expressing anger, as they contain obscene words addresses to the Executive,” governmental sources told MEDIAFAX Thursday.

The quoted sources said only maximum 5% of the petitions concerning the triple increase of the car tax approve the measure, claiming it would make the environment cleaner, less polluted. The rest contain only insults and criticism, showing discontent with the Government’s measure.

Some criticized the fact that the measure was not announced in the electoral campaign, accusing the liberals of being sly. They are displeased and feel tricked, saying the Government announced only the tax exemption for new cars, and not the triple tax increase for the used ones.

Other felt the need to express their regret in the petition addressed to the Executive for having voted for the National Liberal Party in the November 30 elections.

Some of the petitioners doomed the government members not to enjoy the winter holidays, as the measure adopted by the Government has ruined their own holidays, while others asked for tax exemption, invoking personal matters.

“Some say they are old, sick, others ask to be exempted from tax payment as they could buy the best car of their life, a second-hand car from the West-European countries, only after years of hard work,” the quoted sources said.

On the other hand, Internet forums are full of messages expressing discontent with the measure to triple the pollution tax for used cars.

Bucharest mayoralty representatives told MEDIAFAX Thursday a citizen claimed he stands for another two thousand people displeased with the Government’s move to triple the car tax and asked for authorization to organize a protest on Saturday in the capital city. As he did not come up with the respective signatures and did not represent any organization, he withdrew his claim following talks with the authorities.
