The 2.5 MW turbines are intended for projects in eleven countries: Germany, France, England, Spain, Italy, Poland, Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Turkey and Romania.

The contract represents Nordex’s entrance on the Romanian market.

“Nordex already has double-digit market shares in many of these countries. But this order also gives us an opportunity to enter new markets like Romania,” said Carsten Pedersen, COO Sales and Marketing at Nordex AG.

The contract stipulates maintenance service for up to ten years after installation.

Nordex did not mention in its press release the number of units that will be delivered to Romania.

Wind farms of 7-MW total power had already been installed in Romania, while Germany, the world leader in this field, holds 23,000-MW wind farms, England – some 2,000-MW wind farms and Austria has 1,000-MW ones.

Romania’s state-owned power grid operator Transelectrica (TEL.RO) received requests to connect some 12,000 MW- capacity wind farms to its network, taking into account that the power plant in Cernavoda, operated by state-owned Nuclearelectrica, has two 700-megawatts reactors and provides around 18% of Romania’s generation needs. The plant in Cernavoda was initially designed to have five reactors, each with 700 megawatts.
