Nica also said the social democrats recently came up with several anti-crisis measures, adding the committee set up by the democrat liberal and social democrat members of the ruling coalition will closely analyze each and every proposal, make all necessary evaluations and then set a date for their enforcement.

According to Nica, some of these measures could be applied even starting August 1.

Furthermore, Nica pointed out the committee will analyze those measures that must be adopted and introduced in the Fiscal Code, which will subsequently uphold the business environment and Romanian companies.

Nica said these measures would also be discussed late July with the officials of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), stressing all European countries have recently adopted fiscal and financial relaxation measures, considering that the economic crisis proved harsher and exceeded all forecasts in the beginning of the year.

Romanian social democrat lawmaker Viorel Hrebenciuc on Sunday said Romania risks facing an economic and social sideslip in autumn unless the government takes urgent anti-crisis measures to prevent that.

Hrebenciuc pointed out the social democrats recently proposed a series of important measures in their anti-crisis plan, namely, to eliminate the minimum yearly tax on revenue as of September 1, as well as to reduce both the value added tax (VAT) on food and electricity costs for household consumers.

Furthermore, he added the social democrats are waiting for an official standpoint from the country’s finance minister Gheorghe Pogea regarding the impact of eliminating the minimum yearly tax on revenue starting September 1, as well as other anti-crisis measures proposed by the social democrats.
