Police are now looking to identify the prank caller.
Bucharest police spokesman Christian Ciocan told MEDIAFAX Friday a man called 112 at about 1 p.m. and claimed to be a doctor at the hospital. However, the call was traced as coming from a different area in Bucharest and the man hung up when he was asked why he claimed to be inside the hospital.
The hospital was not shut down and evacuated during check-ups and doctors went about their usual business. Visitors, however, were not allowed to enter until check-ups were finished.
Hospital manager Catalin Carstoiu told MEDIAFAX there were about 4,000 people inside the hospital at the time of the threat. He said this is not the first time the hospital receives fake bomb threats.
