Romanian PM Assures USA Of Support For Southern Energy Corridor Development

Boc met with Richard Morningstar, Special Envoy of the United States Secretary of State for Eurasian Energy, and discussed the „permanent consultation with the United States” on issues of energy, according to the Government.

„We want to take up an active role, among Central and Eastern European countries, in promoting an integrated approach to EU projects and policy on energy security,” Boc said.

He also talked about the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania Interconnector (AGRI) project’s important contribution to the development of the Southern Energy Corridor and European energy security, providing the shortest route between the Caspian region and the European markets.

Boc expressed Romania’s support for U.S. efforts to expand cooperation with the states in the Caspian Sea region and stimulating their interest for the European market. The prime minister also explained that Romania’s energy strategy was developed in accordance with the European Union’s objectives, adding that Romania is an advocate of cooperation in the EU-USA Council for energy and wishes to be actively involved.

Prime Minister Boc is in New York City, attending the meeting of the United Nations General Assembly.
