Romania August Overdue Loans Rise 6.9% On Month To RON14.4B

Romanian non-government overdue loans rose 6.9% on the month to 14.4 billion lei (EUR1=RON4.2455) in August, and were more than double compared with the year earlier period, central bank data showed Friday.

The overdue private lending was at RON6.2 billion in August 2009.

According to central bank data, overdue loans in Romanian lei rose 5.2% on the month to RON7.1 billion end-August. Overdue lending in lei was almost double compared with RON3.6 billion in August 2009.

Overdue foreign currency loans were at RON7.3 billion in August, about 9% higher on the month and almost tripled from RON2.6 billion in the same period of 2009.

At the end of August, overall private lending was at RON209.1 billion, up 0.5% on the month. Loans in Romanian lei amounted to RON78.25 billion, while foreign currency-denominated loans stood at RON130.88 billion.
