Romanian Development Min Wants 25,000 New Rural Homes Built For Doctors, Teachers, Priests

„Every commune will have a residential complex of ten houses over 100 square meters. There will be 25,000 homes in total and the land will be provided by local authorities,” Udrea said during the conference „Romania, 20 years later: social changes and problems. Whither quality of life?”

The minister did not say how much the program would cost, nor when it would be implemented, but said more details would be announced next week, when two other projects, one with the Ministry of Health, the other with the Ministry of Defense, would be presented.

„The Defense Ministry owns large plots of land which can be used to build homes for military personnel,” Udrea said.

Udrea said in January that she plans to build around 100,000 new homes for young people through the National Housing Agency (ANL) over the next three years.

The minister said the required funds would come partly from the sale of already built ANL homes. Through its program to build homes and rent them to young people, ANL constructed around 25,000 apartments by the end of last year.
