Romania To Adopt Euro In 2014, Sooner If Possible – PM

Romania will adopt euro by 2014, the established deadline, but it might also happen sooner if possible, Prime Minister Emil Boc said Tuesday, commenting on the International Monetary Fund's report on euro adoption presented Monday by Financial Times.

Financial Times reported Monday that according to the International Monetary Fund, “crisis-hit European Union states in central and eastern Europe should consider scrapping their currencies in favor of the euro even without formally joining the euro-zone”.

"The sooner Romania joins the euro-zone, the better it is for everybody, for Romanians, as well as for the economy," Boc said.

Boc added that the country should target euro adoption no later than 2014, even sooner if possible.
