Vanghelie said that the party’s National Standing Office mandated honorary president Ion Iliescu and National Council president Adrian Nastase to meet with Tariceanu Friday.
He said that he was present at the Standing Office meeting by he did not wish to offer further details on the mandates held by Iliescu and Nastase.
"The decision was made in the Standing Office meeting held Thursday. I was there, wed made the decision together, all of us. Anyway, the meeting is well known. It is natural for us to discuss our current status in Romania," Vanghelie said.
He added that the social democrats are interested in the Government’s propositions, and they will make a decision Monday, taking into consideration the talks held Friday.
"There will also be a meeting with the democrat liberals. There might also be a meeting with president Traian Basescu," Vanghelie said.
The Romanian social democrats decided to hold talks with the other political actors, for the organization of early elections or the creation of a "service government" that would not include the social democrats and which would organize the elections, according to social democrat leader Mircea Geoana.
