Romanian Liberal Head Antonescu Declares Geoana New President

Antonescu said, addressing social democrat Mircea Geoana: „Mister President of Romania, I congratulate you and may God give you the strength to begin a new and good chapter in Romania’s history. I also thank all Romanians who voted today and spoke up, as they should, as is the democratic way. I thank all those who understood that a change is needed and that their vote has freed Romania and has given it a chance that we, the politicians, are not allowed to miss,” Antonescu saud after learning the exit poll results that point to Geoana as winner.

Antonescu the new team will „rebuild Romania”, trust in institutions and the economy.

At the same time, the liberal leader asked his party colleagues to „stay on the barricades on this tough nights and guard the votes of people” so that the count is fair.
