Inquiry Com Calls For Dismissal Of Romania Integrity Agency Chief

According to the Commission, Macovei was shareholder in two companies while he was acting deputy-president and later president of ANI, an agency whose role is in fact to identify and sanction unjustified assets of Romanian dignitaries and to verify incompatibilities and conflicts of interest.

The Commission will propose the Senate to dismiss Macovei from position of ANI chief on grounds of “breaching legal provisions regarding conflicts of interest and the status of incompatibilities.”

In a report obtained by Mediafax, the Commission says will further propose legal action against Macovei for false statements, as he failed to tell the truth about certain “qualities incompatible with the position of ANI deputy president and president, respectively. ”

CNI’s inquiry commission was set up after two former employees with the Integrity Agency have signaled several irregularities regarding both Macovei and ANI’s secretary general Horia Georgescu.
