Romania’s Constitutional Court Friday ordered a recount of null votes following the Social Democratic Party’s claim that the election was tainted by fraud, after their candidate Geoana lost the vote to incumbent Basescu at a difference of some 70,000 ballots.

Nearly 140,000 ballots were voided in last Sunday’s election and the Central Electoral Bureau has until Monday afternoon to finish the recount, but it looks like the recount has almost no chance of overturning the election outcome.

The Central Electoral Bureau is still expecting the arrival of voided ballots cast by expats, who are credited with Basescu’s ultimate higher score.
