Romania Gets Code Orange Weather Warning For Rain, Thunderstorms

The Romanian meteorological authority issued a code orange warning valid until Wednesday 8 a.m. for eight counties, expecting heavy rains and thunderstorms, said environment minister Attila Korodi.

The orange code warning was issued for counties Mehedinti, Gorj, Valcea, Arges, Hunedoara, Sibiu, Alba and Cluj.

In these counties the quantity of rain is expected to amount to 60 liters per square meter, and even 80 or 100 liters per square meter in some areas on Tuesday night, according to Ion Sandu, the head of the meteorological authority.

Hydrologists also issued a flood warning for western Romania, valid until Wednesday at 6 p.m.

A code yellow warning was issued Tuesday for counties Maramures, Satu Mare, Bihor, Salaj, Bistriţa-Nasaud, Cluj, Mures, Alba-Iulia, Hunedoara, Sibiu, Brasov, Prahova, Dambovita, Arges, Teleorman, Olt, Valcea, Gorj, Dolj, Mehedinti and Caras-Severin and is valid until Wednesday 6 p. m.
