Romania Eyes EU Commissioner For Agriculture, Transport, Consumer Protection Or Energy
"There are a few important sectors we are considering, but no final decision has been made: A Agriculture, Transport, Consumer Protection, Energy. The decision (to appoint a European Commissioner – e.n.) also considers the fact that we need to have a significant number of supporters to make sure Romania gets a certain portfolio it deserves,” Nica said after a meeting of he country’s ruling coalition.
Nica added social democrats and democrat liberals made propositions regarding the appointment of a EU Commissioner and a final proposition will be forwarded to the Government after a new round of negotiations.
Romanian President Traian Basescu recently told French President Nicolas Sarkozy that Romania is considering a more consistent portfolio in the future European Commission, for instance, agriculture. Romania currently holds the position of European Commissioner for Multilingualism.
