Romania’s President Validated For New Term Within Formal Ceremony

Romania’s Constitutional Court Wednesday validated Traian Basescu for a new term as president of the country during a formal ceremony.

Prime Minister Emil Boc, representatives of the Constitutional Court, Romania’s prosecutor general Laura Codruta Kovesi, Chamber of Deputies Speaker Roberta Anastase, democrat liberals and representatives of the Hungarian minority party were among those present at the ceremony.

The Constitutional court’s decision will be published in the Official Journal.

Basescu was reelected president with 50.33% of the votes, defeating his social democrat contender Mircea Goana in the presidential election runoff held on December 6.
