Iran is free to unfold civil nuclear programs, but should keep them transparent to avoid suspicions that it might be developing nuclear weapons, Romanian President Traian Basescu said Monday in Damascus after a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

"Iran needs to show responsibility in its relations with the international community when it comes to its nuclear program,” Basescu said, adding that any country has the right to unfold civil nuclear programs, including Iran.
 
Basescu also said Iran must be transparent in its relations with the international community and particularly with the International Atomic Energy Agency regarding the development of civil nuclear programs, to lift any suspicions that the program has military facets.
 
The Romanian head of state and his wife are on an official two-day visit to Syria.
