Romania’s April Annual Inflation, 3rd Highest In EU

Romania’s annual inflation was flat at 4.2% in April, EU’s statistics office Eurostat said.

EU’s annual inflation was 2% in April, up from 1.9% in the previous month. A year earlier, the rate was 1.3%.

Hungary reported the highest annual inflation in the EU, of 5.7%, followed by Greece (4.7%) and Romania.

The lowest rates were observed in Latvia (-2.8%), Ireland (-2.5%) and Lithuania (-0.2%), Eurostat data showed.

Romanian consumer prices rose 0.3% in April compared with the month earlier. EU’s monthly inflation was 0.4%.

Annual inflation in the 16 states that use the euro was 1.5% in April, up from 1.4% in March. A year earlier, eurozone’s rate was 0.6%.

The lowest 12-month averages up to April were registered in Ireland (-2.5%), Portugal (-0.7%), Estonia and Latvia (both -0.6%), and the highest in Hungary (5.0%), Romania (4.9%) and Poland (3.8%).
