Monday’s reference rate to the euro was the lowest since January 13, when it was at RON4.2985 to the euro.
At around GMT 1110, the leu was trading at RON4.3000/RON4.3044 to the euro, touching the day’s low so far.
"Currencies in emerging markets registered significant losses against the euro and the negative sentiment in the region also led to the depreciation of the leu, which was rather stable in the first hours of trading," a dealer said.
The leu opened at RON4.2770/4.2820 against the euro, slightly down from Friday’s closing value, and touched an early high at RON4.2600/RON4.2650 to the euro.
Then, at around GMT 0805, it was trading at RON4.2700/4.2740 to the euro, dealers said.
On the money market, overnight interest rates were at 10.5-11% on the year.
The central bank computed Friday a daily indicative of RON4.2655 to the euro.
