Italian prime minster Silvio Berlusconi said at the end of the meeting with Romanian president Traian Basescu that Italian authorities are not discriminating, but the high number of foreign criminals in this country determined a certain amount of rigor towards unidentified foreigners.

Berlusconi said he had a very “warm and interesting” meeting with president Basescu, in which they went deeper into the topics of a collaboration that already exists between the two countries.

Berlusconi mentioned he reminded Basescu that he and the Italian people were an “important and decisive” advocate in Romania’s accession to the EU.

"And I told the president that we are happy to have a large Romanian community,” Berlusconi added.
