The poll was made public on Tuesday on the site of the Romanian Agency for Government Strategies.
Over 80% of Italians say they were never victims of an aggression while people who were actually assaulted indicate rroma citizens as their aggressors (50%) and Romanian citizens (24%).
The survey revealed that 61% of Italians agree with the fact that the crime rate increased considerably in Italy since Romanian immigrants entered the country and 51% say that because of Romanian immigrants beggary and misery increased in public spaces.
Most Italians agree with expelling immigrants from their country saying that foreigners have a hard time integrating in society. Asked whether they would like to have Romanian friends, 46% of the people interviewed gave a negative answer while 54% said Yes. However, the difference grew when it came to the Rroma people (75% of Italians want nothing to do with them, while only 25% would befriend a Rroma citizen).
Rroma immigrants are considered lazy (48% of respondents), undisciplined (52%), rude and vulgar (48%), violent and aggressive (38%), but this negative view is much lower to where Romanians are concerned.
Three quarters of the people interviewed said the image of Romanian citizens has much to suffer because of the illegalities committed by the Rroma population.
When thinking about the Rroma population, Italians immediately make the connection with Romania and this is why the country places last in Italians preferences.
Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu ( Romanian dictator who ruled the country between 1965 and 1989 and his wife) are the first personalities that Italians can relate Romania to (24%), followed by footballer Adrian Mutu, gymnast Nadia Comaneci and footballers Cristian Chivu and Gheorghe Hagi.
The poll revealed that 34% of the people interviewed said Romanians should not be allowed access in Italy while 36% said nothing should be done in this respect.
Ansa news agency on Monday posted on its site a poll that stated that 81% of Italians dislike the Rroma population while 64% are against Romanians.
