Romanian Parliament Starts Debates On ’09 Bugdet Tuesday

The Romanian Parliament will start discussions on the 2009 budget draft on Tuesday and the budget might be adopted as soon as Thursday noon, as over 7,000 amendments are to be debated, said Monday Gheorghe Flutur, the vice-president of the Democratic Liberal Party, part of the ruling coalition.

The reunited Parliament commissions for budget and finance approved Saturday the Romanian state budget for 2009, with eight votes against, from the members of the opposition. The Parliament members finished the project’s debates a day before the set deadline.

The MPs in the two commissions also approved the social insurance budget, with seven votes against.

The Romanian Government targets a consolidated budget deficit of 2% of the GDP, and the budget is based on a 2.5% economic growth in 2009.
