Moldovan President Accuses Romania Of Contesting Moldova’s National Identity
"The relations between Romania and the Republic of Moldova are not so good at the moment and we are very concerned that things might get worse. However, there have always been disagreements, but it seems they have come out now," said Voronin, adding he is not pleased with the initiative of the Bucharest authorities to grant Romanian citizenship to those Moldovan citizens able to prove their Romanian origins.
"If the Romanian authorities continue to question the national identity of the Republic of Moldova, I am convinced that the relations between the two countries will not improve. Romania must clearly understand our stance and the European Union must support it as well. We must establish normal relations with our neighbors – no matter what –not that kind of relations disfavoring one of the parties."
