Romanian Miners, Rescuers, Management Members Heard In Mine Blasts Investigation
Sources close to the investigation said investigations are underway, with the hearings of miners, rescuers and members of management, without specifying whether they were part of the Petrila mine management or the management of the national pitcoal company CNH.
The head of the local labor inspectorate, Ileana Bodea, said Sunday hundreds of people would be brought in for hearings over the next days within the investigation.
A powerful blast killed eight miners Saturday and a second blast claimed the lives of four others, who had entered the mine for rescue operations. Another 14 people were injured.
Eight of the injured were brought to Bucharest Sunday morning and are in serious condition. The other six are still committed to the local hospital in Petrosani.
