Romanian Prosecutor, Police Officers, Lawyers Detained For Corruption
Romania’s High Council of magistrates, which must allow prosecution of magistrates, has authorized the detainment of prosecutor Nelu Carpen, head of the prosecution office in Buftea, a small town near Romania’s capital Bucharest.
Carpen, the two lawyers and two police officers have been heard for several hours and prosecutors will require in court their preventive arrest for one month.
Anticorruption prosecutors said Carpen allegedly took bribes from several people involved in criminal trials, promising favorable court rulings, with the aid of lawyers and police officers.
