Romania May Keep Unchanged Gas, Electricity Prices Until Apr 1

Romania's Energy Regulatory Authority ANRE will not change household gas and electricity prices on October 1, and plans to keep them at the current level until April 1, 2010, the watchdog's president Petre Lificiu told MEDIAFAX Friday.

Lificiu said the authority intends to make sure prices are predictable during the crisis.

In July, ANRE cut natural gas prices by 5% after a 3% cut on May 1. Household electricity prices were kept unchanged in 2009.

In 2009, natural gas and electricity consumption dropped by 25% and by 10%, respectively, due to the financial crisis.
