Basescu told the IMF delegation in Bucharest that he expects more support from institution in pushing the politicians to make a thorough reform.

"I must admit that (…) you were by far more relaxed in asking the Government to make serious steps, which I must admit that in a way is a good thing; hence I expect more support from you in pushing the politicians to making a serious reform," Basescu said at the beginning of the meeting with the IMF delegation at the Presidency headquarters.

"Anyway, over the time, I was more rapid than you in terms of exigency," he added.

Basescu also thanked the Fund’s delegation for its last weeks’ effort in putting a right diagnostic on Romanian economy and for its professional approach as regards the country’s current situation.

The head of IMF mission to Romania Jeffrey Franks thanked in turn the Romanian representatives for the effort deployed over the last weeks, "the IMF valuing their professionalism.”

The IMF delegation is made up of nine members and is led by Jeffrey Franks, the chief of the IMF mission for Romania and Juan Jose Fernandez Asolo, IMF’s representative for Romania and Bulgaria.
