Romanian President Traian Basescu said Monday at the meeting with the members of the presidential commission analyzing and drafting policies in the healthcare sector that he agrees with higher wages in the sector, provided wages go hand in hand with professional achievements, just like in the education sector.

Basescu said the report drafted by the commission is a "fair analysis on the situation in the healthcare sector," adding he takes full responsibility for this document, which will be posted on the website of the presidential administration and then launched for public debate.
 
The head of state added the budget of 6 billion lei (EUR1=RON3.6875) assigned for the healthcare sector "is not enough.”
 
Moreover, Basescu said it is shocking to see that Romania ranks first among other countries in terms of infant mortality.
