The institute said output in the energy and manufacturing sectors grew 9.8% and 8% on the year in Jan-Apr, respectively. Mining sector output fell 1.7% in the same period.
In April alone, the country’s industrial output rose 13.3% on the year on growth in all three main sectors. Output in the manufacturing and energy sectors grew 14.1% and 12.1% on the year in April, while mining output rose 5.1%, the institute said.
On the month, industrial output fell 3.4% in April due to drops in all three main sectors.
Output in the energy sector recorded the steepest monthly decrease of 12.9% in April.
Output in the mining and manufacturing sectors dropped 3.8% and 2.8% in the same period, respectively.
Industrial output data for April are preliminary, the institute said.
In 2007, Romania’s industrial output grew 5.4% on the year led by manufacturing growth and is expected to grow 5.2% in 2008, according to official estimates.
