Romanian President Sees Justice System On The Right Path
The head of state Basescu said one of his “burning” desires since he took office war to modernize public institutions, but admitted this target “was not achieved.”
"Public institutions are not yet decentralized and we still face a lot of bureaucracy and an ineffective justice system," he said.
Speaking about progresses in the justice system, Basescu said steps were taken into the right direct, from a certain point of view.
"We still face an ineffective justice system. Still, I would like to make myself very clear and, without defending anything and anybody in the sector, I have no doubts whatsoever that things in the justice sector have taken a good turn. Prosecutors sent nearly 20 files to judges, which target politicians. The fact that judges do not quite do their job is another aspect; nevertheless, the justice sector did see some progress," Basescu said.
