In September alone, over 7,400 companies ceased their activities, 26% fewer than in August, according to ONRC data.
The number of companies on voluntary dissolution totaled 14,700 in the first nine months, 4.7 times higher compared with the same period a year ago. In September, 1,430 companies resorted to voluntary dissolution.
Most of the companies that suspended their activity in the January-September period were registered in Romania’s capital city Bucharest, respectively 17,200 firms, out of which 884 in September.
The northwestern Romanian county of Cluj ranks second with 6,770 suspended companies in the first nine months and 420 in September, followed by Brasov, with 5,333 in total and 300 in September.
As of May 1, companies pay a minimum annual tax between 2,200 lei (EUR1=RON4.2840) for revenues of up to RON52,000, and RON43,000 for revenues of over RON129 million.
The companies registering profit continue to pay the 16% tax.
