The European Union and EFTA (European Free Trade Association) countries saw a 3.9% decrease in new car registrations in the first eights months of the year, to 10.41 million units, compared with 10.83 million units in the same period a year ago.
Romania saw a 0.9% decrease in new car registrations in August, to 30,523 units, compared with 33,533 units in August 2007.
The EU and EFTA countries saw a 15.6% decrease in new car registrations on the year in August, to 805,839 units.
Germany remains the country with the highest growth among EU states with a 1.7% increase in new car registrations, to over two million units, followed by Italy with a 12% decrease, to 1.74 million units and Great Britain with a 3.8% decrease, to 1.52 million units.
The ranking also includes France with a 2.9% increase in new car registrations, to 1.37 million units, Spain with a 21.1% decrease, to 1.11 million units and Belgium with a 5.5% increase to nearly 382,000 units.
