“In the first two years, I believe we had to use this instrument (emergency ordinances – e.n.) at a massive scale, because if it were for the Parliament’s speed, we’d probably joined the EU in 2020. I believe that, in certain occasions, the Parliament passed bills without considering certain essential constitutional provisions, which stipulate a series of economic measures must always be joined by proper financing resources. The Parliament was very enthusiastic in deciding salary increases, without taking into account that this put the government in a very unpleasant situation and triggered a public conflict dominated by populism and demagogy,” Tariceanu said in relation to the 50% pay hike granted to personnel in education.
Tariceanu mentioned the government avoided passing emergency ordinances “whenever possible.”
