Romania’s October Annual Inflation, Highest In EU

Romania posted the highest inflation in the European Union for the third consecutive month in October, while the EU average rate accelerated to 2.3%, from 2.2% in September, official data showed Tuesday.

A year earlier, the EU inflation was 0.5%, EU’s statistics office Eurostat said.

Romanian annual inflation reached 7.9% in October, followed by Greece (5.2%) and Estonia (4.5%), while the lowest annual rates were observed in Ireland (-0.8%), Latvia (0.9%) and Slovakia (1%).

The lowest 12-month averages up to September were registered in Ireland (-1.9%), Latvia (-1.8%) and Slovakia (0.5%) and the highest in Romania (5.5%), Hungary (4.9%) and Greece (4.3%).

Romanian consumer prices were steady at 0.6% in October compared with the month earlier. EU’s monthly inflation was 0.3%.

Annual inflation in the 16 states that use the euro was 1.9% in October, up from 1.8% in September. A year earlier, eurozone’s rate was -0.1%.
