The amendments will be introduced by government ordinance and will include a series of technical regulations, Vosganian said.

Vosganian met in Brussels on Tuesday with EU Tax Commissioner László Kovács for talks on Romania’s controversial first registration tax on cars.

The European Commission last week took the second step in the infringement procedure against Romania regarding its car tax, giving the country a two-month deadline to amend its legislation. If Romania fails to comply, the Commission may refer it to the European Court of Justice.

Vosganian said Romanian authorities are open to collaborations with EU officials in order to avoid a trial.

Earlier Tuesday, Romanian Premier Calin Popescu Tariceanu said the car tax will be amended if there are technical asymmetries, but it will neither be reduced, nor eliminated.
