The overall French car market shrank 11.2% in April, to 169,451 units.
According to the French Carmakers Association, Dacia outranked Opel, Fiat, Toyota and Nissan regarding the number of registrations. Car brands Peugeot, Citroen and Renault and foreign car brands Volkswagen and Ford remained market leaders in April, said the association.
Dacia car registrations accounted for 4.7% of total car registrations in France last month (from 4% in April last year).
Dacia car registrations dropped 26.5% in March, to 12,212 units.
French group PSA Citroen Peugeot is market leader with 49,934 car registrations in April (down 21.1% from April 2010) and is followed by Renault (including Dacia) with 41,483 units (down 19.1% from April last year). Renault car registrations fell 23.5% in April 2011, to 33,487 units.
Volkswagen is market leader among foreign carmakers with 22,572 car registrations (up 5.1%), followed by General Motors (9,122 units, -4%) and Ford (8,702 units, -8.2%).
Volkswagen is also the best-selling foreign brand (13,673 registrations, +9.5%) outranking Ford (8,702 units, -8.2%) and Opel (7,131 units, -5.7%).
