E&Y: Romania’s M&A Mkt Seems To Unfreeze

Investors are confused by the recent developments in Romania, with macroeconomic conditions deteriorating and the announced austerity measures, but the mergers and acquisitions market seems to unfreeze, an Ernst&Young official said Monday.

„The M&A market seems to unblock, at least according to the due-diligence demands we received… Access to financing is the main obstacle, but there are funds and strategic investors who are willing to invest. Everyone wants to invest in growing sectors that are not exposed to crisis,” said Cornelia Bumbacea, partner with E&Y Romania.

The Romanian M&A market might revive in the second part of the year, or, more certainly, as of 2011, she said.

On the other hand, the latest political evolutions affect the investors confidence, Bumbacea added.

Romania’s Competition Council is another impediment for the local M&A market, as it delays the deals’ approval, she said.
