Liberal Candidate To Grab Mayor Seat In Romanian Commune, After Rightful Winner Dies
The social democrat candidate, Neculai Ivascu, died Sunday morning, but the vote was not suspended and the deceased got the majority of votes.
The Central Electoral Office adopted Monday a decision interpreting the law on the election of local public administration authorities, the liberal representative in the office, Tudor Chiuariu, said.
Chiauriu explained that most office members decided that in the event one of the candidates for mayor in the second round of election back out, dies or no longer qualifies for the race after the ballots are printed, the other candidate is to be declared the winner.
