Liberals Norica Nicolai, Renate Weber Considered For Justice Min - Sources

Liberal senator Norica Nicolai and MEP Renate Weber are two of the options considered by the Liberal Party, or PNL, for the position of justice minister, following Tudor Chiuariu’s resignation, liberal sources told MEDIAFAX Sunday.

Both Nicolai and Weber are experienced in the field, and they have been considered for the position at the government reshuffle after democrats left the cabinet and switched to opposition.

However, there are liberal voices saying the new justice minister may be chosen from the legal system of civil society, to avoid further attacks on the part of President Traian Basescu against liberals.

A decision might be made Sunday evening, when liberal leaders have scheduled an informal meeting to discuss this issue.

Justice minister Chiuariu announced his resignation Sunday in a press conference, adding he would come back to continue reforms in the country’s legal system when “ridiculous attacks against him” cease.
