Three Toulouse citizens carrying containers with disinfectant walked to the Roma camp in Legion d’Honneur Square, threw their mattresses and blankets on the sidewalk and sprayed them with disinfectant.
According to La Depeche, one of the Roma women (aged 60) was sprayed near the face and suffered a slight discomfort.
Later on, local police interfered and stopped the operation.
“I did not take part in the operation myself, but I support it. No one listens to us. We’ve wrote to the City Hall, we went to Grand Toulouse, the prefecture. They’d rather let things stall,” a Toulouse woman told the quoted paper.
“We ask the sanitation companies to pick up their excrements, from the parking lot and the rest of the area. They play football and make noise late in the night. They are begging everywhere,” she continued.
Toulouse’s League for human rights, however, denounced the operation and asked for a legal inquiry.
“The residents who come together and premeditate such an action, is scary,” a League representative said.
