Romanian Railway Employees To Resume Talks With Transport Minister Next Week

Romanian unionists with the state-owned railway company CFR will resume talks with transport minister Radu Berceanu in about a week and new protests may take place depending on the result of talks.

Union leader Ion Mole said Wednesday that Transport Ministry representatives told unionists that discussions with the minister would be resumed in about a week.

Railway employees will decide whether to organize further protests depending on these talks.

About 6,000 railway employees protested in Bucharest Wednesday over the ministry’s plans to cut 12,000 jobs across the railway sector. The protesters were on their day off and railway traffic was unaffected by the protest.
