Romanian President Urges Investors To Refrain From Mass Layoffs

“I wish to appeal to you, the company owners, investors, people who hire the workforce: think ten times before moving to massive layoffs. The budget resources are limited and, even if I don’t ask you a normal thing for a dynamic market economy, I urge you to consider the possibility of partnering up with the government in the attempt to lower to minimum the social effects,” Basescu told a conference of foreign investors in Bucharest.
 
Basescu said he was aware unemployment cannot completely disappear, but that a potential partnership between investors and the government might help limiting the crisis’ impact on citizens to avoid a social crisis.
