The carmaker has 2,800 employees with temporary labor contracts, and the contracts of 600 employees expire on December 31, 2008.
Automobile Dacia, a subsidiary of France’s Renault, currently employs nearly 14,700 people, compared with 13,807 employees end-2007. Th 2,800 employees with temporary labor contracts make up 19% of Dacia’s entire personnel.
The contract cease for the 600 employees would represent a loss of around 4% of the plant’s manpower.
Last week, Dacia halted production until December 7 at its plant in Mioveni, southern Romania, after it previously halted operations on November 13 and 14 and on October 30 and 31, citing lower demand on the local and export markets.
Dacia reported a 24.5% increase in last year’s revenue, to 7.2 billion lei (EUR1=RON3.7933), from RON5.78 billion, while its net profit rose 17.2%, to RON442.34 million from RON377.27 million.
In the first nine months of the year, Dacia sold 194,165 cars, a 17% increase compared to the similar period of the previous year.
