„Power consumption is seen down 9% on the year in 2009, and similar to this year’s level in 2010,” said Viorel Alicus, a director with ANRE.

He mentioned, however, some power suppliers and distributors have asked for a price decrease. Alicus added that making such requests is a regular practice.

Asked if household prices will be modified from January 2010, Alicus said electricity prices will most likely be maintained, but there are small chances for a decrease or increase.

End-October, caretaker Prime Minister Emil Boc said ANRE will not change household gas and electricity prices in 2010.

ANRE head Petre Lificiu told MEDIAFAX end-September that the authority plans to keep prices at the current level until April 1 at least.

In July, ANRE cut gas prices by 5% after a previous 3% cut on May 1. Household electricity prices were kept unchanged in 2009.
