Magistrate Investigation Section To Summon Kovesi For New Hearing – Sources

According to the sources, Kovesi will be summoned for a hearing on March 7, as she is suspected of abuse of office, taking bribes and false statements in the case.
The inquiry was opened after a denunciation made by another fugitive businessman, Sebastian Ghita, who accused Kovesi of requesting him to pay for the repatriation of Nicolae Popa from Indonesia in 2011, when the magistrate was serving as Romania’s General Prosecutor.
The former chief prosecutor of Romania’s National Anticorruption Directorate unsuccessfully tried to recuse both case prosecutor Adina Florea and SIIJ chief Gheorghe Stan from proceedings related to the case.
Kovesi accused that the case was brought up in efforts to stop her bid to become the first chief prosecutor of the upcoming European Public Prosecutor’s office. The prosecutor won two votes in European Parliament committees this week, with the nomination to be subjected to negotiations between EU lawmakers and the EU Council.
