Romania Might Face Unemployment Crisis – State Secretary
Cornoiu reckons that Romanian authorities are prepared to avoid reaching the figure of 800,000 unemployed people predicted Monday by labor minister Marian Sarbu. According to the state secretary, measures need to be taken to create more employment opportunities in agriculture, so that people with lower qualifications can work in the field.
As regards the possible return to the country of Romanians working abroad, Cornoiu said that agriculture and tourism are the main sectors which can support this inflow of workers. He said that an inter-ministry council can consider all the possibilities to absorb this workforce, as well as amend certain laws in order to stimulate employment.
The Romanian Labor Ministry requested an extra RON500 million for its budget, which is necessary in order to cope with unemployment. The forecast 525,000 jobless people will be joined by some 200,000-300,000 more this year.
